Sunday afternoon.
Lying with my belly to the Earth beside a rushing spring stream, I disappeared into a deep sleep.
I had just completed the final retreat for my year-long Temple of Transformation and then led a shamanic journey at a public event (I’ll share the recording with you soon!).
All of this on top of moving, finalizing my divorce, and listing our family home for sale.
By all rights, I deserved to rest.
And yet there was deep strife within me.
Now what?
What’s next?
What should I do about (insert any number of choices)?
I’ve held space for countless clients walking through times of major transition — emerging into lives and work that feel more aligned, authentic, and meaningful.
But first…
The confusion.
The discomfort.
The strange space of being betwixt and between.
When the old no longer fits.
And the new has not yet arrived.
When you know what you don’t want — but you’re not yet clear on what you do.
There are so many skills we’ve lost in our culture’s obsession with perpetual growth and productivity.
In ancient times, people understood that after seasons of great healing and transformation — the West / autumn in the cycle of life — there naturally followed a fallow resting time: the North / winter.
And before you circled back into new work and visibility — the South / summer — there was time spent in visioning: the East / spring.
You would enter the Temple.
Invoke intuition.
Listen for Spirit.
Wait for sight.
Yet in our modern world, we carry so much judgment around the seasons when life feels:
too full
too fast
too much
not clear
not yet
… when we feel emotionally exhausted — from our own lives and from the state of the world…
… when we’re navigating transition…
the loss of a loved one
children growing older
relationships ending
a change in our work
health shifts
aging.
We are not built to move at the pace of modern life and remain aligned with our heart, attuned to our body, and connected to our soul.
Not unless we choose to create space for it.
When we give ourselves grace – when we allow ourselves to be tired, confused, uncertain – and intentionally make space…
a walk in the woods
a nap on a Sunday afternoon
a cup of tea actually enjoyed in the morning
…we begin to hear ourselves again.
Because knowing what’s next doesn’t usually come from pushing or figuring it out.
It comes as a feeling.
A quiet knowing.
An image gifted from the deeper self.
The way forward appears on an exhale.
Ah. Yes. That.
And from there, life begins to unfurl in a softer, more satisfying way.
As I’ve given myself permission lately to soak in hot springs, spend time with dear friends, take long drives down dirt roads, and pause to watch the geese fly overhead…
New Spirit Guides have appeared.
My energy has replenished a few percent.
My mindset has shifted — able to hold both rest and responsibility.
Both tending to life and tending to myself.
Again and again, I’ve watched the same thing happen for students and clients.
When they listen to what their heart and soul are actually asking for – whether that means more inspiration or doing less – their lives slowly reorganize around greater harmony, satisfaction, and what I call soul success.
So lately I’ve been asking myself a simple question:
What could be?
Not just for my own life.
But for humanity.
I wonder what’s possible when you listen to your own answers from your body and soul?
